Career Academies

Overview

Career Academies UK leads and supports a movement of over 1000 employers and over 120 schools and colleges, working together to raise the aspirations of 16 and 19-year-olds. This initiative is well established throughout schools/college throughout Scotland. Cleveden Secondary School has been a part of the Career Academy Programme for 2 years and will be recruiting again for next session.

Young people have the opportunity to be paired with a suitable mentor from the business world, who can support the young person with the important career decisions. Pupils will also have the opportunity to visit various businesses to find out more about how they operate. Not only do the pupils have the opportunity to participate in the mentoring process, they also complete an internship during the summer break between 5th and 6th year. This gives them first hand experience of what would be expected of them in the world of work.

Please visit the website for more information: www.careeracademies.org.uk

Keep a look out for more information regarding recruitment for next session!

Top-up

The Top-Up Programme has been designed to help S5 and S6 school pupils who are planning to enter higher education after school, or considering that option. Top-Up prepares pupils for the transition from school to university and helps them make informed choices about their futures.

Top-Up aims to increase school students' awareness of higher education and the realities of study at this level. University is very different from school. Whether students want to pick up completely new subjects or continue with familiar ones, they are likely to find themselves learning in new ways. Top-Up is a rigorous, academic programme that introduces students to these new learning methods and environments, as well as equipping them with the key critical skills they will need to be successful learners. The Programme is designed to foster and promote critical thinking and independent learning, as well as key skills for successful higher education study, such as note-taking and making, decision-making and essay-writing.

REACH

The Reach programme is a programme aimed at supporting pupils interested in attending university. It is co-ordinated in collaboration by the University of Glasgow and the school.  It is aimed at S4-S6 school pupils with the interest, potential and ability to study one of the following professional degrees: Dentistry, Law, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.
